Preston School District Parents,
This application is for those who wish to request that the instruction of their children be conducted virtually. This is a temporary offering from the district in response to the COVID-19 outbreak in our country. The expectation, upon completion of this application, is that the students who are a part of this program will remain in the virtual classroom for at least the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. This offering will be re-evaluated in November and December of 2020.
At the elementary level students will be assigned to a teacher for their virtual learning. The teacher at the elementary level will act as a regular classroom teacher and will direct the learning activities, instruction, and manage the online programs for the students in his/her class. Regular communication will be expected with parents. If the virtual option were ended after one semester, students would continue to be assigned to their virtual teacher in the face-to-face setting for the remainder of the year. They would not be reassigned . If sufficient students from one grade do not request the online option, a class may be comprised of mixed grade levels. Elementary teachers will be assigned as a virtual teacher. Most likely there will only be one per grade level. Therefore, parents will not be able to request a specific teacher if they are requesting virtual education.
At the Jr. High level (grades 6-8) students will be assigned to courses through multiple possible methods some of which may include Idaho Digital Learning Alliance (IDLA), working directly with teachers at Preston Jr. High, or a combination of the two. Students should plan on enrolling in 6 courses, just as they would have in a face-to-face setting. Time during registration will be set aside to schedule your courses and the options that you would like to utilize for your student.
At the high school level students will be assigned to courses through IDLA or Preston Mastery Campus, or a combination of both. Students should plan on enrolling in 6 or seven courses, just as they would in a face-to-face setting. Time during registration will be set aside to schedule your courses.
Information regarding Preston Mastery Campus can be found by clicking here and information regarding IDLA can be found by clicking here.
Grading for virtual education for all students will be the same as grading for the face-to-face students. Adjusted grading similar to last spring will not be used in the virtual instruction.
Not all students from a family must be enrolled in the virtual instruction.
We are asking that this application be completed by the end of the day on Monday, August 3rd to give us time to prepare and organize the virtual classrooms.
